The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kelaniya currently teaches biochemistry to undergraduate students and conducts research in the field. Today, biochemical, molecular biology, and bioinformatics techniques are widely used in Sri Lanka's major industries, such as healthcare, agriculture, and food production. The use of these technologies helps make Sri Lankan products more competitive in the export market.
However, there is a shortage of trained individuals with practical knowledge in these fields within the country. Graduates in Sri Lanka do not have sufficient opportunities to get hands-on practical experience in Advanced Biochemistry and Biotechnology. As a solution to this issue, the Department of Chemistry has introduced these four postgraduate programs:
✔️ Master of Science (2 yrs with 1 yr research component) in Biochemistry and Biotechnology
✔️ Master (1 yr) in Biochemistry and Biotechnology
✔️ Postgraduate Diploma in Biochemistry and Biotechnology
✔️ Postgraduate Certificate in Biochemistry and Biotechnology
